Devon clubs can associate with the DCCA for a small annual fee and this is highly recommended to ensure club members can benefit from many of the additional Devon-wide activities. This allows for a richer chess experience for members as they will be able to play different players from other clubs around the county.
Association allows clubs to participate in individual and team events organised by the DCCA throughout the season. In particular:
- Members of associated clubs can compete for the Individual Devon Champion at the East Devon Congress
- Club Champions of associated clubs can compete for the "Champion of Champions" Winters Wood shield
- Associated clubs are also eligible to compete in all the DCCA Team events run throughout the year. These are hosted at different clubs throughout the year and the DCCA helps subsidise the costs of the events.
Associated clubs are also provided with a 'shop window' page for the club on the DCCA website to act as an advertisement for the club. This might for example provide brief details of the club, its location current officer and links to the club's own website and might help bring new members to the club.
Two seasons ago, we simplified the DCCA affiliation process - and reduced the fee! - and this season the affiliation fee is once again unchanged: £30 per club, or a reduced rate of £15 for a small club with fewer than 12 members. To encourage participation, there will be no fee for junior / school clubs who wish to affiliate.
All proceeds from affiliation will be put towards our programme of one-day events, to ensure there is no financial impact for the host clubs. Please also note that DCCA affiliation is mandatory for a club to participate in these events.

We recommend that all Devon clubs ensure they are affiliated in good time, so as to be eligible to play in the Newman Rapidplay event hosted annually in December. In any event, under the DCCA constitution, affiliation fees must be received before the end of November.
