Devon County Chess Association warmly welcomes your entries to its annual
TEAM QUICKPLAY TOURNAMENT
Sunday 15 February 2026, 1:00pm till 5:15pm,
at Clyst St Mary Village Hall, Clyst St Mary, Exeter, EX5 1AA

Ample parking is available at the venue, which is a 3-minute drive from Junction 30 of the M5, or a 2-minute walk from the well-connected ‘Clyst St Mary, Shelter’ bus stop.
Further bus details can be found here (east-bound) or here (west-bound).

Keep an eye on the devonchess.org website from 20 January onwards for updates!

Format: Teams of four players. Six rounds will be played under a Swiss pairings system (based on total game points scored). Digital clocks will be used, with each player receiving 10 minutes plus 3 seconds increment per move.

Trophies: All teams will compete in one ‘pool’, and three team trophies will be awarded:

  • Overall winner: Thomas Trophy
  • Best team under 7300 total rating: Hodge Trophy
  • Best team under 6200 total rating: Graded Trophy
  • The Individual Performance Trophy will be awarded to the player achieving the best individual score.

Entries: Clubs are strongly encouraged to enter more than one team – there is no limit on entries! Teams from non-Devon clubs are very welcome to participate, although they will not be eligible to win any of the four trophies. Instead, a small prize will be awarded to the highest-placing non-Devon team.

The entry fee is £12 per team (payable on the day) for a team of four adults. Thanks to a donation, a £1 discount may be applied for each junior player (aged under 18 on 1 September 2026) – e.g. a team of four juniors pays £8.

All entries should be submitted using the Enter Team Quickplay Form (ideally by 8 February 2026, please) – player names are not required, but your attention is drawn to the rule below regarding estimated ratings. Entries will be confirmed by email and current entries will be shown on the website. Please get in touch if you have any ‘spare’ players – it may be possible to create a composite team!

ECF Rapidplay ratings (as given by the January 2026 ‘Revised’ list) will be used where available, and Standard-play ratings (as given by the January 2026 ‘Revised’ list) otherwise. Ratings below 1200 will be counted as 1200 when determining a team’s total rating. Estimated ratings must be officially pre-approved with the organisers, or the team in question will not be eligible to win a rating-limited trophy. Results will not be submitted for rating.

Please note:

  1. Depending on entries, clubs may be asked if they can assist by bringing a small number of boards / sets / clocks to the event, which will be carefully managed and tracked to avoid any mixing. The organisers would be grateful if clubs could indicate via email if they are able to help in this way.
  2. Light refreshments (drinks & biscuits) will be available for a small donation.
  3. We plan to run an (entirely separate) individual blitz tournament earlier in the day (9:30am-12:15pm) at the same venue. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would be interested in playing! Full details will be released soon.
